"Disney's American Legends" is a compilation of classic and newly made animated shorts based upon American Folklore.  James Earl Jones has already proven he can make hearing about the "Yellow Pages" interesting, and his introductions to each of the shorts, is certain to keep the viewers' attention.

"John Henry" stands out for its innovativeness in animation.  The background, while not at all "polished" looking, offers an incredible feel, and while the short looks rougher in technique than most "Disney" fans are used to, it's intentional, stirring, and makes this short one to revisit over and over!

"Johnny Appleseed" follows the tale of the vegetarian trekking across the wilderness. The animation here reflects the style achieved during the studio's best theatrical releases.

"Paul Bunyan" offers the larger-than-life character with memorable images, and what kids won't love "Babe" the blue ox?

"The Brave Engineer" is the tale of Casey Jones, and this reviewer will have to admit that children and adults will have a hard time even sitting through it! Why was it even included here? It offers nothing worthwhile or comprehensible to anyone! Mediocrity at its utmost in terms of animation, writing,...everything!

BVHE has done a great job in presenting these animated shorts.  The colors are solid and vibrant.  None of the shorts have any spots wherein colors are muted.  There is a slick polish to them and without any oversaturation.

The Dolby Digital Surround mix offers little in terms of rear speaker effects.  While dialogue is intelligible on the first three shorts, "The Brave Engineer" suffers from poor clarity.
