Michael C. Hall continues his outstanding portrayal
of a serial killer/blood spatter analyst for the Miami Police Department in
"DEXTER: SEASON 2," available on blu-ray from PARAMOUNT.
"SEASON 2" manages to build on the previous season with witty conflicts
affecting our main character. The advance skills Dexter has relied on in
covering up his crimes, (burying victim's body parts at sea)haven't prevented
them from being discovered by treasure hunters. Now, with the police
acknowledging these crimes are associated with a new "serial killer," Dexter has
to prevent them from finding further links to him, and has to deal with the the
concerns his behaviour has raised with a girlfriend, believing he's a drug
addict, and the Sargeant following Dexter around trying to uncover whatever it
is he's hiding!
Although there are some flaws with Season 2, the various relationships,
especially the one between Dexter and his sister, offer terrific drama, and it's
easy to want to view the whole season in one extended sitting!
PARAMOUNT has provided the correct 1.78:1 aspect ratio for this 1080p/AVC MPEG-4
blu-ray. As with the previous season, this blu-ray sports outstanding color
values throughout. The exotic Miami setting creates stirring detail which jumps
off the screen in virtually every scene. While grain becomes noticeable in some
of the darker scenes, blacks are deep enough to convey consistently great detail
therein. It's a great looking image, all the way through!
PARAMOUNT has provided a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 mix, and while this dialogue-driven
series lacks the aggressiveness of a "CSI-like" series, music is played out
effectively through all speakers, and occasional ambient effects are well
handled, creating short immersive moments.
PARAMOUNT has provided some extras, most of which are "BD-LIVE" enabled.
Unfortunately, there aren't any great commentaries, which were offered on some
episodes of "SEASON ONE" with its blu-ray release.
