Although laserdisc releases are slimming down due to the massive demand and cost benefit of dvd, it's nice to see MGM is still active in their upcoming scheduling, which includes "RONIN".  Nicer still, is the chance to catch widescreen laser releases like "Deceiver", unavailable on dvd, but inheriting an excellent quality transfer here.  Twin brothers Jonas and Joshua Pate wrote and directed this psychological thriller following the interrogation/polygraph exam of a suspected killer.   They're much better at directing than writing, and the look they've achieved is often dazzling!  Anything less than the full 2.35:1 aspect ratio given here, would severely diminish the tension achieved through the elaborate cinematography.  The transfer is superb, with a glossy look and perfect fleshtones.  The Dolby Surround sound is used sparingly and effectively.
