"DEAD RECKONING" has never been given its due, because everyone wanted to compare the onscreen chemistry between actress Lizabeth Scott and Bogie to the one between him and Lauren Bacall. It's a ridiculous comparison! Would it be fair to compare his chemistry with Bacall to that of his with Hepburn in "AFRICAN QUEEN?"   Bogie plays Warren Murdock, a Captain trying to uncover why the friend he's just recommended for the Congressional Medal of Honor, has vanished before being able to receive it!  Soon enough, his investigation uncovers a murder and introduces him to a beautiful chanteuse(Scott), and no one can be trusted.

COLUMBIA TRISTAR has presented the film with its correct 1.33:1 aspect ratio.  It's a generally slick transfer, and while there are some signs of age, the contrast is excellent!  Blacks and grays are deep, allowing perfect clarity in darker scenes. 

The Dolby Digital monaural soundmix is fine, although its age is more apparent. Fidelity is limited, especially during a musical sequence. Dialogue is intelligible and generally free from distortion.
