SRP $32.99 1.85:1(16:9) DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 BUENA VISTA

"The Crew" only lasted for a few days during its theatrical release, but
it's not that bad a film, and it may actually win over a few fans with this
outstanding dvd presentation from BUENA VISTA.
Richard Dreyfuss, Burt Reynolds, Dan Hedaya and Seymor Cassel as a group of "pre" geriatrics, growing tired of just reminiscing about their younger days in the mob.

The film's narration brings it a sense of sentimentality, especially due to
Dreyfuss' delivery.  While some narrations don't work, this one actually
enhances the storyline, allowing the viewer to learn about the characters in a more casual manner.   While trying to lower the rent in their apartment, and take on a seemingly "simple" job, a chain of events is set in motion, involving a ruthless drug lord and the police,  inevitably making the "crew" reactivate their previous skills and find some meaning to their lives.

There are some good laughs placed throughout the film, however, it's
disappointing that producer Barry Sonenfeld didn't recognize the necessity of a tighter script.  There are just to many slow passages between jokes.

BUENA VISTA presents the correct 1.85:1 aspect ratio with 16:9 enhancement.  The image looks extremely sharp, although there is some pixelation in a few scenes.  Colors are bright and vivid. Contrast is fine, with deep blacks and grays.  Fleshtones appear natural.  It's a good looking transfer, although not as slick and glossy as we'd hoped for.

The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundmix is a little restrained.  Surround usage is
utilized mainly for atmospheric effects.  The directional effects tend to be focused in the front.  Dialogue is well focused and free of distortion.

There is a featurette, "WORKING THE CREW", offering interviews with cast members and Producer Barry Sonnenfeld.
A section entitled "ACTION OVERLOAD" is basically a mini-trailer comprised of some of the film's more entertaining moments.
The theatrical trailer is included in full frame and dolby digital 2.0
