DISNEY has released the blu-ray3d version of “CHICKEN LITTLE.” Having not liked the film when previously released in its blu-ray 2d version, this reviewer wasn’t looking forward to having to re-watch it for the blu-ray3d review, again. Unlike many of the best DISNEY releases, “CHICKEN LITTLE” is not for “everyone.” Instead, its one-note storyline really doesn’t transcend its under 9 target audience. Anyone older and especially adults will find the film incredibly tedious after the first 25 minutes.
DISNEY has provided a 1.78:1 aspect ratio for this MVC MPEG-4 1080p blu-ray. Colors are typically vibrant. Detail is sharp and consistently impressive. Unfortunately, there are continual problems with artifacts. Ghosting is so noticeable, it really becomes distracting. “CHICKEN LITTLE” is hard enough for adults to sit through on its own, but add a near headache-inducing problem with crosstalk and the end result is just not pretty.
“CHICKEN LITTLE” has a few scenes that actually come across perfectly with this 3d transfer. Unfortunately, the overwhelming amount of artifacts is too intrusive to recommend this blu-ray3d release.
While the blu-ray2d mix still features the same LPCM 5.1 mix from when it was originally released, the blu-ray3d mix is presented with DTS-HD MA 5.1. Separation effects are focused on the front soundstage, but surrounds kick in with great impact during the film’s last act. Bass is still a bit underwhelming and dialogue can be overshadowed by a range of effects. Thankfully, the soundtrack features some great songs, and this lossy mix comes to life whenever a song is featured. In fact, the majority of music sounds better on this mix than on any other format available so far.
Supplements include 5 featurettes, all in standard resolution, a deleted scenes section, a filmmaker q&a, and a commentary. The commentary becomes dull very quickly.
