SRP $19.98 1.33:1 DOLBY SURROUND PARAMOUNT

PARAMOUNT is home to one of the best children’s films of all time, the animated classic,“CHARLOTTE’S WEB.” It’s a film with heart-felt messages that, like “BAMBI,” affect viewers young and old.  Now, PARAMOUNT has released a direct-to-video sequel, “CHARLOTTE’S WEB 2: WILBUR’S GREAT ADVENTURE.”  Unfortunately, this sequel lacks the imagination of the original, and while young children will still enjoy this film, fans of the first film will almost certainly be disappointed.

Wilbur has been living on the farm, along with some of Charlotte’s offspring.  Templeton the rat is back from the first film, although voiced by new talent, as is the case with everyone here.  When a black lamb is born, named Cardigan, Wilbur and he immediately become best friends.  They pal around so much that, in some of the funnier moments, it’s evident that Cardigan believes he’s a pig.

However, shortly after this bond begins, Cardigan is being sent away, and it’s up to Wilbur and friends to preserve what they have.   The original film offered better animation and writing. Sure Hanna-Barbera’s animation was simplistic, but it worked, and the characters seemed original. Here, the characters seem more like generic compilations of other popular children’s cartoons.

PARAMOUNT has presented the film in its original 1.33:1(Full-frame) format.  The image is sharp, and colors are rich, although the animation isn’t anything special.

PARAMOUNT has presented a Dolby 2.0 Surround mix. This isn’t an aggressive mix, by any measure. Still, there are some separation effects, and the music is well complimented through all speakers. Dialogue is always intelligible and free from distortion.

Some games, targeted for youngsters, have been included.  While some youngsters may enjoy it, there’s not much repeated value to it.
