While not sure that “BOLT” really achieved its rightful success at the box-office, when initially released three years ago,  this new, blu-ray3d presentation of it will hopefully win over a larger fan base, and deservedly so!

OK, so the pairing up of John Travolta and Miley Cyrus for the vocal talents of this animated release may have seemed forced or odd for some potential viewers. But, having seen “BOLT” and having been transformed into a real fan of it, this reviewer can’t imagine anyone else voicing their respective characters!

Having previously reviewed the actual film content with the previous 2d blu-ray and dvd, let’s just simplify the storyline to its core. Following a terrific opening sequence, the viewer realizes “BOLT” is a seemingly ordinary, likeable dog, without any superpowers. Unfortunately, the loveable canine doesn’t realize this fact, and believes he has all of the super abilities, afforded to him via state-of-the-art high-tech soundstage effects, within the studio he’s working within. “BOLT” is a dog playing a superhero dog. The creator of this successful marketing franchise believes that only in keeping the dog fooled, can the best performance be achieved. Of course, events follow wherein the dog must utilize all of his abilities and even some limitations, in order to save the girl-human he cares for.

“BOLT” is alternatively hilarious, moving and gripping. It’s great entertainment for the whole family on any holiday, group gathering, or just entertainment night!

Colors are rich and are presented with a pleasing, tendency for warm hues, completely suited for this release. Detail is consistently impressive, with only a few minor instances of softness, visible on the blu-ray(2d) format as well.

The superhero-oriented action sequences, loaded with a dazzling assortment of high-tech “mission-impossible” type of data/gadgetry, optics and more, showcase the best elements for the “3d” depth, even the less stunning moments, within the “real” world of the non-studio environment wherein Bolt must travel for the majority of the film, still offers a fun sense of dimensionality, over the 2d offering. In comparison to the flawless, blu-ray3ds of late from DISNEY, BOLT is less impressive, due to some ghosting. However, these problems are infrequent. Most of the “3d” effects offer a great enhancement to a delightful film that’s easy to re-watch.

Whether it’s laser-guided missiles, a near head-on collision, or subtle ambient effects, this DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix is outstanding! From beginning-to-end, this is a fun-filled immersive sound experience, certain to please all audiences, young and old. Discrete and many panning effects, all blend seamlessly with high-tech sound effects and perfectly balanced dialogue! A DEMONSTRATION QUALITY SOUNDMIX!
