The first of what we hope are many "Baywatch" episodes has been released on dvd from ARTISAN/PIONEER ENTERTAINMENT.  Comprised of two two-parters on opposite sides, they exemplify everything that has made the corny, but entertaining t.v. series last as long as it has.  Featuring a bevy of beauties, wondeful cinematography and slick editing, the dvd transfer perfectly compliments all of these elements.  It always looks sharp, and the dolby surround sound is more active than many feature films.

Directed by former actor Bob Balaban, "Parents" attempts to be a poltical allegory-film about the '50s and the horrors that the "perfect family" may have hidden!  Cannibals aren't funny to most viewers, and this one's not for everyone.   Still, there are some genuinely funny moments, and surprises.  The dvd transfer is fine, but the contrast could be sharper and colors are somewhat subdued in specific scenes.  The sound is really mono with adequate clarity.  A trailer is included.

"After Dark My Sweet" isn't a perfect thriller.  In fact, it's so intentionally quirky, it undermines itself at times, however it deserves a better transfer than what's been done here.  The colors and fleshtones are fine, but Director James Foley, known for his wonderful 2.35:1 compositions, should be offended by the cropping done here!  Some scenes are much sharper than others, and we believe it's due to the blowing up of the image.  The sound is fine, but unremarkable.
