While "ARMORED" didn't do well at the box-office, it doesn't diminish its impact as a small but highly entertaining action film. Having served as a soldier in Iraq, Ty comes back to the states to find things have gotten really tough at home. Struggling to pay the mortgage for the house he's just inherited when his parents passed away, and worried about losing his younger brother to foster care, he gets hopeful when family friend, Mike gets him a job alongside him as an armored car officer. Very quickly(it's only an 88 minute film)Ty realizes Mike and his small team of friends/co-workers plan to pull off a heist of their own carrier's loot. Of course, Ty isn't wanting any part of this, and finds a rude awakening when his friend and co-workers resort to brutal tactics when things get complicated. Complications arise? Well, there are no suprises in "ARMORED," really! Every "twist" is evident for any viewer who's seen even a small number of action films over the years. But, surprisingly, the utter predictability of virtually everything happening throughout "ARMORED" doesn't prevent it from being a fun film to watch, regardless! The director, Nimrod Antal, is really good. And, without ever doing what so many filmmakers tend to be doing, ...attempting to rip-off Tony Scott's style, he creates a visually appealing style and terrific pacing. "ARMORED" moves even faster than its running time suggests, feeling just right and leaving the viewer satisfied in the end.
SONY has provided the correct 2.40:1 aspect ratio for this AVC MPEG-4 1080p blu-ray. It's a slick, well-polished image throughout. Detail is stunning in virtually every scene, and the image never falls flat. While the extreme darkness to some scenes, veers detail close to becoming swallowed into obscurity, inky blacks prevent this from happening. Colors aren't typically rich, but they never appear subdued. It's a great looking transfer. REFERENCE QUALITY!
SONY provides one of the most aggressive mixes so far, this year, with the DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix offered. Bass is key to the film's overriding tension and there's plenty of it here! More importantly, it's perfectly balanced with discrete, panning effects, music and dialogue, offering a terrific listening experience. REFERENCE QUALITY!
SONY has provided an audio commentary with a producer and two of the supporting actors. It's a so-so track, and not destined to intrigue or entertain anyone but whatever "die-hard" fans of the film's actors(Milo Ventigmiglia/Skeet Ulrich)there are. Featurettes about the film's stunts, design and other aspects(1080i)are offered. Additionally, trailers for other SONY releases are offered in 1080p. A digital copy of the film is included.
