"AGENT RED" starring Dolph Lundgren isn't half bad entertainment! Well, that's saying it's only half good however. Lundgren stars as a Special Ops Commander in charge of securing safe passage for a deadly virus, locked aboard a submarine. Of course, Russian terrorists take over the sub in an attempt to rule America by spreading the Virus. While the plot isn't original and at times is a blatant rip-off of "UNDER SIEGE", it's well directed and tightly paced. There's enough action, even with a low budget to provide some explosions and thrills.
Lundgren is no Steven Seagal. Not that Seagal can act either, but next to Lundgren, Seagal is a serious actor! There's a beautiful girl aboard too, similar to Erika Eliniak in "UNDER SIEGE".
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has offered director's commentary here, and it's actually insightful, as Damian Lee provides a lot of background to how scenes were shot, costs, etc.
The transfer is pretty glossy looking, in spite of some grain in darker scenes. Fleshtones appear natural. While colors aren't as solid as we're used to with COLUMBIA TRISTAR, they're adequate here!
The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix offers some great LFE effects as well as surround effects in some key scenes for even more thrills.
