SRP $19.99 2.35:1 DOLBY DIGITAL/DTS 5.1 BUENA VISTA

BUENA VISTA has been releasing plenty of martial arts films in 2002, and many of them with Jet Li.  “ACCIDENTAL SPY” blends comedy and action into the style best suited to its star, Jackie Chan.

Chan stars as Bai, an exercise equipment representative, who after inadvertently preventing a robbery, finds himself racing to locate a deadly chemical sought by bad guys. Of course, taking on bad guys allows for him to practice a number of gravity-defying footwork and martial-arts, with both amusing and thrilling results.

“ACCIDENTAL SPY” lacks the kind of slapstick comedy found in most of his other films, but there are some big laughs interspersed throughout the film.

BUENA VISTA HOME ENTERTAINMENT has preserved the film’s 2.35:1 aspect ratio, however, it’s not with 16:9 enhancement.  Colors are duller than we’re used to finding on standard BUENA VISTA releases, and the image is a bit soft.  But, overall, there’s decent definition throughout. Fleshtones appear natural.

BUENA VISTA HOME ENTERTAINMENT has provided terrific audio options for this release!  There are options for either DTS or Dolby Digital 5.1.  More importantly, both of these formats have options for either the dubbed or original “Chinese” language version!  While not overly aggressive, surrounds are creatively utilized during some key sequences, and they boost the film’s score. The “DTS” versions are noticeably superior to the Dolby Digital, offering better definition and bass throughout.

BUENA VISTA has included the theatrical trailer.
