6th Day-
Schwarzenegger is back! COLUMBIA TRISTAR has released the overlooked, but
highly entertaining "6th DAY" on dvd. The perils of
cloning and other futuristic endeavors are explored in this futuristic sci-fi
adventure.
Things get dangerous for Arnold after he brings in the family's recently
deceased pet to "RePet", an agency skilled at "bringing"
back dead animals via cloning.
When he returns home he finds that his "clone" has moved in and taken
his place, and there are three henchmen out to "erase" him!
While the scenes of these bad guys "and" a girl out to get Arnold, are
a little contrived in spots, seeing the futuristic weapons they use, and
wondering how Arnold is going to turn the tables on them, makes for great fun!
While the film's pacing is a little sluggish at times, the story is exciting
and the cast is excellent! Robert Duvall gives yet another fine
performance as a scientist whose cloning expertise brings about Arnold's
turmoil. He's great in every scene, and it's disappointing that he's not
featured more.
COLUMBIA TRISTAR has presented the film with its proper 2.35:1 aspect ratio and
16:9 enhancement. The image is "FLAWLESS!" The resolution
is spectacular and there's no oversaturation whatsoever! Fleshtones are
perfectly natural throughout. While the color values aren't always
vibrant, due to the production design, they're perfectly rendered.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix doesn't contain the "non-stop"
aggressiveness we'd expect from a Schwarzeneggar action film, but it's still
fun, and provides a great 3-D environment during the chase sequences. The
bass is extremely effective during the frequent explosion and shooting
sequences. The score by Trevor Rabin is well complimented here as well,
engulfing the listener without overshadowing the various layers of subtle
effects.
Trevor Rabin's score is featured in dolby digital 5.1 with commentary from
Rabin. Rabin provides a great deal of commentary here, offering ore
insight than any composer we can recall, including Goldsmith's commentary
regarding "the Omen".
A lengthier version of the "Re-Pet" infomercial in the film is
offered, as
well as trailers for "the 6th Day", "Hollow Man",
"Final Fantasy" and
"Gattaca", all in dolby digital 5.1!
